What Causes Hemorrhoids

As mentioned previously, it is not know what categorically causes hemorrhoids but there are certain demographics for which the risk of hemorrhoids is higher.
  • Pregnant Women. It's not specifically know why, but pregnant women are in the higher risk group for getting hemorrhoids. Whilst the reason is not clear, statistics can confirm they are more at risk.
  • Age 45 - 46 as one ages, the tissue supporting the hemorrhoids weeakens and can detach itself from the anal canal walls.
  • Obese people - People who are considerably overweight are also at risk from developing hemorrhoids.
Lack of dietary fiber. Poor diet lacking in fiber can result in constipation.
Forcing of stools - Trying in with insufficient fiber, hard stools can lead to constipation and thus too much straining being required to take a bowel movement.

Can Alcohol Cause Hemorrhoids?

hemorrhoid and alcohol consumption
Can Alcohol Cause Hemorrhoids? So why does excessive alcohol consumption cause or make hemorrhoids much worse? Alcohol tends to dehydrate the body, has a diuretic action, which increases the flow of urine causing a loss of bodily fluids producing harder stools making any constipation much worse. This will cause more straining when having a bowel movement. You should try not to strain too hard and instead spend more time to try to ease the motion.
Straining will also make any itching and inflammation worse.
General body weakness, poor muscle tone in the anal area from too much drink, lack of exercise and being overweight. Too much alcohol consumption weakens your muscle tone and the muscles cannot hold in the veins around the anal area so they protrude through.
Sitting about in chairs at home, work, or a car for a long periods.
Lounging about drinking instead of keeping active. Irregular eating patterns. not getting the right vitamins and minerals in your food. Lack of protein leads to weak muscle tissue in the anal area and slows the healing of wounds

Euphorbia Prostata Cures Hemorrhoids

Many suffer from it silently, without telling anyone about it. Piles, or swollen blood vessels in and around the anus and lower rectum that stretch under pressure symptomized most commonly by bleeding, is still considered a taboo subject. With fast-paced progress in medical science, however, piles is now being recognized more judiciously and scientifically at par with other medical problems.

Whereas on one hand, awareness on the ailment, and on the fact that treatments are in fact available to alleviate it has increased, on the other hand, it has also led to the mushrooming of quacks making tall claims without any substance.

Piles or hemorrhoids are very common in both men and women. According to available data, about half of the population has hemorrhoids by the age of 50. Hemorrhoids are also common among pregnant women. The pressure of the fetus in the abdomen, as well as hormonal changes, cause the hemorrhoidal vessels to enlarge. These vessels are also placed under severe pressure during childbirth. For most women, however, hemorrhoids caused by pregnancy are a temporary problem.

Recent researches in India have now established that the herb, Euphorbia prostata, is very effective in treating piles and anal fissures. In a recent study conducted at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Punjab University, Chandigarh, as many as 32,000 patients of piles and anal fissures have been reported to have benefited from oral (capsule/tablet) and topical (cream/gel) forms of Euphorbia prostata. No significant side effects were reported.

Following the studies initiated by BestOnHealth, an SBU of Delhi-based pharma major, Panacea Biotec, and the encouraging results of their succeeding monolithic study on 32,000 patients, the company in association with the Punjab University has recently patented the technology for extracting flavonoids from Euphorbia prostata, vide European patent no. EP 0868914. Based on this technology, BestonHealth has introduced India’s first hundred per cent integrated and natural piles management system called “Thank God”. The company has patented the product worldwide and plans to introduce it soon in Europe, Latin America and other parts of Asia. This integrated kit combines the benefits of flavonoids with those of naturally occurring ispaghulla husk, and comprises of a relief capsules, topical anytime cream, isphaghulla husk, a pain and relief cream, and an applicator.

One of the major ingredients in Euphorbia prostata is flavonoids. Flavonoids have aroused considerable interest recently because of their potential beneficial effects on human health– they have been reported to have antiviral, anti-allergic, anti-platelet, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and antioxidant activities.

In two other similar but more specific studies initiated in 2001 by BestOnHealth under the supervision of Dr. M.P. Arora of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Dr. V. K. Malik of Maulana Azad Medical College, 118 cases of bleeding hemorrhoids were administered Euphorbia prostata-based flavonoids at effective doses and were examined later at 5 and 10 days for improvement in symptoms related to piles. The objective of the study was to explore and certify the benefits of flavonoids extracted from Euphorbia prostata in piles management. The symptoms of piles pertained to anal discomfort and pain, discharge of mucous from anus (proctorhhea) and inflammation of the rectum (proctitis). At the end of the eight-month trial, the physicians observed a statistical difference in the cure rate profile among the patients selected. It was observed that patients who were given flavonoids achieved an overwhelmingly significant cure and relief from symptoms of bleeding piles when compared to patients in the controlled group (on placebo).

It is now established that flavonoids extracted from Euphorbia prostata reduce bleeding, pain and inflammation associated with piles, and reduce itching. They also promote efficient wound healing. Euphorbia prostata has been found effective in the entire efficacy parameters of bleeding hemorrhoids and show minimal side-effects, with high tolerance among patients.

Experts further suggest that these flavonoids work best in piles management when combined with other natural remedies like ispaghulla husk etc., and such an integrated approach also significantly reduces the risk of a relapse (recurrence) in piles.

Experts opine that such a rationally formulated combination therapy seems to have an exponential and positive remedial effect, and may speed up recovery from the symptoms of piles. This would be a big relief for the many patients hitherto hiding their distressing anguish and suffering incessantly yet silently. The pain, it seems, is finally over.

Hemorrhoids. Causes, symptoms, prevention, treatment.

Hemorrhoids are a very common health problem. Hemorrhoids cause serious problems in about 4% (over 10 million) of people in the United States. Causes of hemorrhoids, types of hemorrhoids, prevention, and treatment options. Keywords: hemorrhoids Article Body: Hemorrhoids, often called piles, are swollen and inflamed veins in and around the anus and lower rectum. They are much like varicose veins you might see on a person's legs.

Hemorrhoids are a very common health problem. Hemorrhoids cause serious problems in about 4% (over 10 million) of people in the United States. Prevalence of hemorrhoidal disease increases with age until the seventh decade and then diminishes slightly. Hemorrhoids also increase in pregnancy due to direct pressure on the rectal veins.

Causes of hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are caused by too much pressure in the rectum, forcing blood to stretch and swell the blood vessels. People whose parents had hemorrhoids may be more likely to get them.

Most common causes of hemorrhoids:
  • straining with bowel movements (from constipation or hard stools)
  • diarrhea
  • constant sitting
  • sitting on the toilet for a long time
  • childbirth
  • pressure of the fetus in pregnant women
  • heavy lifting
  • familial tendency
  • obesity
Symptoms

Symptoms of hemorrhoids include:
  • rectal bleeding
  • pain around the anus and rectum
  • irritation and itching
  • bulge or lump at the anus
Excessive straining, rubbing or cleaning the anus may worsen symptoms. In most cases, the symptoms of hemorrhoids will only last a few days. Not every one with hemorrhoids will experience symptoms.

Types of hemorrhoids

The type of hemorrhoid depends on where it occurs. There are two types of hemorrhoids: internal and external.

External hemorrhoids develop around the rim of the anus. External hemorrhoids cause most of the symptoms associated with hemorrhoids (pain, burning, and itching) because the skin around them is very sensitive. If an external hemorrhoid becomes strangulated (cut off from blood supply), a clot can form in it and become an excruciatingly painful thrombosed hemorrhoid. Thrombosis of an external hemorrhoid causes an anal lump that is very painful and often requires medical attention.

Internal hemorrhoids develop inside the passageway of the anus. Internal hemorrhoids are often present without causing any discomfort or even awareness of their presence. Internal hemorrhoids are usually painless, although they sometimes cause discomfort and bleeding if a hard stool rubs against them during a bowel movement. Internal hemorrhoids also may prolapse outside the anus, where they appear as small, grape-like masses. These can be painful. A prolapsed hemorrhoid will go back inside the rectum on its own, or you can gently press it back into the anus with your fingertips.

Internal hemorrhoids are classified by the degree of tissue prolapse into the anal canal:

  • First-degree - hemorrhoids that bleed but do not prolapse
  • Second-degree - hemorrhoids that prolapse with straining or defecating and retract on their own
  • Third-degree - hemorrhoids that prolapse and require manual reduction
  • Fourth-degree - hemorrhoids that chronically prolapse and, if reducible, fall out again
Mixed hemorrhoids are confluent internal and external hemorrhoids.

Prevention

You often can prevent hemorrhoids by preventing constipation and straining to have bowel movements. Some of the following diet and lifestyle changes may help you to soften the stool, and avoid the straining that can lead to hemorrhoids:
  • Include more fiber in your diet - fresh fruits, leafy vegetables, and whole-grain breads and cereals are good sources of fiber.
  • Drink adequate amounts of fluids - 6 to 8 glasses of water daily.
  • Exercise regularly
  • Do not strain or sit on the toilet for long periods of time. Straining for more than 5 minutes can be harmful. Try not to stay on the toilet any longer than necessary.
  • Use a soothing wipe, such as baby wipes or witch hazel pads, to clean after each bowel movement and to ease the pain.
  • If your main job activity is seated, always stand or walk during your breaks. Make it a point to stand and walk at least 5 minutes every hour and try to shift frequently in your chair to avoid direct rectal pressure.
  • Avoid heavy lifting, which puts pressure on the anal opening.
Treatment

A number of surgical methods may be used to remove or reduce the size of hemorrhoids:
  • Rubber band ligation - A rubber band is placed around the base of the hemorrhoid inside the rectum. The band cuts off circulation, and the hemorrhoid withers away within a few days.
  • Sclerotherapy is one of the oldest forms of treatment. A chemical solution is injected directly into the hemorrhoid or the area around it. This solution causes a local reaction that interferes with blood flow inside the hemorrhoid, making the hemorrhoid shrink.
  • Laser or electro-coagulation techniques - Both techniques use special devices to burn hemorrhoidal tissue.
  • Cryotherapy uses cold temperatures to obliterate the veins and cause inflammation and scarring. It is more time consuming, associated with more posttreatment pain, and is less effective than other treatments. Therefore, this procedure is not commonly used.
  • Hemorrhoidectomy - Occasionally, extensive or severe internal or external hemorrhoids may require removal by surgery known as hemorrhoidectomy. This is the best method for permanent removal of hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoidectomy is the treatment for severe third-degree and fourth-degree hemorrhoids.
Sclerotherapy, ligation, and heat coagulation are all good options for the treatment of hemorrhoids.

What do You Know About Hemorrhoids?

What do You Know About Hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids are masses or clumps of tissue within the anal canal that are made up off blood vessels and supporting tissue, which is made up of muscle and elastic fibers.
Hemorrhoids are masses or clumps of tissue within the anal canal that are made up off blood vessels and supporting tissue, which is made up of muscle and elastic fibers.  The anal canal is the last four centimeters that stool passes from the rectum. Even though people assume that hemorrhoids are abnormal, everyone has them. Fact of Hemorrhoids you should know

It is only when they become enlarged are they considered abnormal or a disease. Only about four percent of the public experience problems with hemorrhoids.  They are found equally in men and woman and usually occur when a person is between 45-65 years old.

It is unknown what truly causes hemorrhoids to enlarge, but there are many theories.  The high intake of fiber could be one.  It is theories that they are caused from sitting too long on the toilet or having chronic constipation.  The only clear theory is pregnancy.  It is not clear why, but it is common in pregnant woman.

Tumors that are in the pelvis area can cause the enlargement because they press on the veins.  Another theory is from the force of hard stool.  The passing through the canal, it can drag the hemorrhoid cushions downward. Sometimes with age, the hemorrhoid tissue begins to deteriorate and slides down the anal canal.

Some of the symptoms of hemorrhoids are when you get pains in your lower abdomen or when you feel pressure near the intestines.  When the hemorrhoid continues to enlarge, it will pull down a portion of the rectum lining and protrude from the anus.

This is called relapsing internal hemorrhoid. You may also find blood in stool.  This is a sign of hemorrhoids.  You may also experience anal itchiness, but this is less common.  Sometimes mucus secretes from the rectal lining, it will cause the area to be constantly moist, and that will cause itching.  Hemorrhoids do require some medical attention, because they can cause gangrene.

In general, if you feel any bulges or pressure near the anus, you could have hemorrhoids.  When they are smaller, you may not feel anything because they have no effect on the function of the anus.  External hemorrhoids are the ones that can cause the most problems. It can be very painful and requires medical attention.  External hemorrhoids will heal, eventually, but scarring or discomfort when bathing maybe a side effect.

When you seek medical attention, your doctor will put you on a grading system. First-degree hemorrhoids will bleed but not protrude from the anus.  Second-degree hemorrhoids are protruding, but retract by them and can bleed.  Third degree hemorrhoids are protruding and can be pushed back with a finger.  The fourth degree hemorrhoid is protruding and cannot be pushed back in.  They contain blood clots and pull much of the rectum through the anus.

Be Aware of the Symptoms of Hemorrhoids

Be Aware of the Symptoms of Hemorrhoids
Before going to the doctor to have a consultation for your hemorrhoids, it is advisable that you must assess the symptoms you are feeling so that you can describe them to the doctor in a detailed manner for a correct diagnosis. Some of the symptoms that you must be aware of are pain, swelling, itching, bleeding, bulges and protrusions.
Consulting a doctor when you are experiencing the symptoms of hemorrhoids is always the best thing to do because there are other medical conditions and diseases that have almost similar symptoms like that of hemorrhoids. Your doctor can confirm that the symptoms you have are due to hemorrhoids and not other diseases or medical conditions.

If you don't have a family doctor to consult with, you can go to other general practitioners like the gastroenterologists, proctologists, and the colon and rectal surgeons who have expertise regarding hemorrhoids.

When consulting a doctor, it is important to describe the symptoms in a detailed manner to have a correct diagnosis for your hemorrhoids. These are some of the issues that you must carefully describe to the doctor: pain, bleeding, mucus or pus, change in bowel habit, change in the shape and characteristics of your stool, swelling, itching, and bulges and protrusions.

Pain - The anal area have many nerve endings that is why it is sensitive to pain. Painful flare-ups are caused by external hemorrhoids. When an internal hemorrhoids are prolapsed, they are also painful. But, not all hemorrhoids will give you the painful feeling.

Bleeding - The color of the blood is an indicator of the location of the bleeding - bright red is from the anal canal and dark red is from the colon. Bleeding does not always indicates hemorrhoids. It can also be associated with more serious medical conditions like colorectal cancer and ulcer.

Mucus or pus - Having some mucus or pus discharge is not associated with hemorrhoids.

Change in bowel habit - When you are under emotional stress, tension, trauma, or diet change, a change will occur in your bowel habit where alternating or chronic diarrhea and constipation may happen.

Change in the shape and characteristics of your stool - When your stool is colored brown or yellow and good in form, then you have a healthy stool. But when there is a change in the shape or color of your stool, it can be a symptom of other medical conditions but not hemorrhoids.
  • Swelling - A person with hemorrhoids will always have the swelling symptom, but this may also mean other medical conditions like infection.
  • Itching - Hemorrhoids, food and medicine allergies, skin diseases, stress, etc. can cause chronic itching.
  • Bulges and protrusions - Prolapsed internal hemorrhoids will cause bulges in the anal canal while external hemorrhoids will have hard bulges located outside of the opening of the anal area.

Not all of these symptoms will lead to a diagnosis of hemorrhoids. Consulting a doctor is not an embarrassing moment. Instead, it is the best way to find out if what you are having are hemorrhoids or not.

Facts You Need To Know About Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids, also called "piles," are swollen tissues that contain veins. They are located in the wall of the rectum and anus and may cause minor bleeding or develop small blood clots.
Hemorrhoids occur when the tissues enlarge, weaken, and come free of their supporting structure. This results in a sac-like bulge that extends into the anal area.
Facts You Need To Know About Hemorrhoids
  • Hemorrhoids are unique to humans - no other animal develops them. They are very common - up to 86% of people will report they have had hemorrhoids at some time in their life, though people often use this as a catch-all label for any ano-rectal problem including itching. They can occur at any age but are more common as people get older. Among younger people, they are most common in women who are pregnant.
  • According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), 10.4 million people in the U.S. suffer from hemorrhoids.
  • Only 3.5 million people, or 1 in 3, seek medical treatment each year for their hemorrhoids.
  • Left untreated, hemorrhoids can get progressively worse over time, growing in both size and number.
  • Some chronic sufferers develop hemorrhoids in as many as three locations.

External Hemorrhoid Treatment Without Surgery

There are two classifications of hemorrhoids. There are internal and external hemorroids. What are External Hemorrhoids? The external hemorrhoids are the fleshy growth of enlarged veins and tissues that bulge outside of the anus, right under the skin that is surrounding the anal opening. External piles occur along the anus and can be extremely painful and can cause bleeding in the anus. If you are experiencing this, have it checked out by your doctor.
The causes of External Hemorrhoids are mainly due to constipation and straining during the bowel movements. Pregnancy can also be another cause. The most common cause is the prolonged sitting during a bowel movement. Sitting for long periods of time is also not at all good for External Hemorrhoids as it can worsen it. Other causes can be diarrhea, lifting heavy objects, poor posture, prolonged sitting, eating a diet low in fiber, anal intercourse, and being overweight. These conditions lead to increased pressure within the hemorrhoidal veins causing them to swell.

 External Hemorrhoid Treatment Without Surgery
One simple external hemorrhoid treatment is the taking of sitz baths. Fill your bath tub with warm water, just enough to cover the anal area. Soak for approximately 10-15 minutes. You need to do this several times a day. These baths are effective for relieving the pain and itching.

External Hemorrhoid Treatment With Garlic
Garlic can also be an effective external hemorrhoid treatment. Garlic contains healing properties which can reduce inflammation and make the veins stronger as well as destroy bacteria.
Remove the thin outer layer of skin from the garlic and then place it inside of the rectum. You don't have to worry about removing it because it will be eliminated the next day when you use the bathroom. This method is only recommended for hemorrhoids that are not bleeding.

Alternative Ways to Cure Hemorrhoids

If you have been diagnosed with hemorrhoids, a high-fiber diet combined with sitz baths and Tylenol as prescribed often reduces discomfort within two weeks. There are many ways of naturally treating hemorrhoids and it better to treat them as Alternative Ways to Cure Hemorrhoids:
  • Eat to much Fiber. Eat a diet rich in fiber, especially fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, in order to ease bowel movements. Drink plenty of water a day (8 glasses/day ) Drinking lots of fluid will help.
  • Bioflavonoids. Bioflavonoids are a type of plant compound found naturally in citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons. Diosmin, hesperidin, and oxerutins are they major citrus bioflavonoids. Thought to stabilize and strengthen veins and capillaries and reduce inflammation, clinical trials have shown that bioflavonoids can reduce bleeding, discomfort and pain during acute hemorrhoid flare-ups and also help symptoms in between flare-ups.
  • Using witch hazel. Dabbing the hemorrhoids with a cotton wool ball soaked in undistilled witch hazel will also reduce swelling and pain as witch hazel is well known as one of the most effective tannin-rich herbs. You can also buy medicated wiping pads that contain witch hazel. They are usually moist and can be used in lieu of or in combination with toilet paper.
  •  Take a warm bath. Fill a bath with warm water (but not hot) to about 10cm. Sit in about three inches of warm water for 15 minutes, several times a day, especially after a bowel movement.  This position will enable maximum exposure of the anal area to the warm water and will kill pain and soothe any irritation in the area.
  • Add a handful of Epsom salts to the bath and make sure to stir the water well to dissolve the salt. Epsom salts can help to shrink and/or soothe the hemorrhoids.
Most hemorrhoid treatments aim to minimize pain and itching. Hemorrhoids do not require immediate medical attention. Bright red blood in the stool is a clear symptom of hemorrhoids and you can first try some home treatment. However should you experience dark coloured blood or black stool contact your doctor straight away as this could be a sign of intestinal bleeding.

What causes hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids are associated with constipation and straining at bowel movements. Pregnancy is also associated with hemorrhoids. These conditions lead to increased pressure within the hemorrhoidal veins that causes them to swell. Hemorrhoids are usually caused by increased pressure on the veins in the pelvic and rectal area. As pressure increases, blood pools in veins and causes them to swell. Eventually, the swollen veins stretch the surrounding tissue, and hemorrhoids develop.
Experts are divided on exactly what causes hemorrhoids, but probably several mechanisms are at work. Traditionally, hemorrhoids are associated with chronic constipation, straining during bowel movements, and prolonged sitting on the toilet — all of which interfere with blood flow to and from the area, causing it to pool and enlarge the vessels. This also explains why hemorrhoids are common during pregnancy, when the enlarging uterus presses on the veins.
Hemorrhoids and what to do about them
  • Sitz. A sitz bath is a warm water bath for the buttocks and hips (the name comes from the German “sitzen,” meaning “to sit”). It can relieve itching, irritation, and spasms of the sphincter muscle. Pharmacies sell small plastic tubs that fit over a toilet seat, or you can sit in a regular bathtub with a few inches of warm water. Most experts recommend a 20-minute sitz bath after each bowel movement and two or three times a day in addition. Take care to gently pat the anal area dry afterward; do not rub or wipe hard. You can also use a hair dryer to dry the area.
  • Get more fiber. Add more fiber to your diet from food, a fiber supplement (such as Metamucil, Citrucel, or Fiber Con), or both. Along with adequate fluid, fiber softens stools and makes them easier to pass, reducing pressure on hemorrhoids. High-fiber foods include broccoli, beans, wheat and oat bran, whole-grain foods, and fresh fruit. Fiber supplements help decrease hemorrhoidal bleeding, inflammation, and enlargement. They may also reduce irritation from small bits of stool that are trapped around the blood vessels. Some women find that boosting fiber causes bloating or gas. Start slowly, and gradually increase your intake to 25–30 grams of fiber per day. Also, increase your fluid intake.
  • Exercise. Moderate aerobic exercise, such as brisk walking 20–30 minutes a day, can help stimulate bowel function.
  • Seek topical relief. Over-the-counter hemorrhoid creams containing a local anesthetic can temporarily soothe pain. Creams and suppositories containing hydrocortisone are also effective, but don’t use them for more than a week at a time, because they can cause the skin to atrophy. Witch hazel wipes (Tucks) are soothing and have no harmfu l effects. A small ice pack placed against the anal area for a few minutes can also help reduce pain and swelling. Finally, sitting on a cushion rather than a hard surface helps reduce the swelling of existing hemorrhoids and prevents the formation of new ones.
  • Take time. When you feel the urge to defecate, go to the bathroom immediately; don’t wait until a more convenient time. Stool can back up, leading to increased pressure and straining. Also, schedule a set time each day, such as after a meal, to sit on the toilet for a few minutes. This can help you establish a regular bowel habit.
  • Treat the clot. When an external hemorrhoid forms a blood clot, the pain can be excruciating. If the clot has been present for longer than two days, apply home treatments for the symptoms while waiting for it to go away on its own. If the clot is more recent, the hemorrhoid can be surgically removed or the clot withdrawn from the vein in a minor office procedure performed by a surgeon.

Facts of Hemorrhoid | You Should to know

What is Hemorrhoids? Hemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels of the rectum. The hemorrhoidal veins are located in the lowest area of the rectum and the anus. Learn More about hemorrhoid, Here are list of Facts of Hemorrhoid | You Should to know
  • Internal hemorrhoids are clumps of tissue within the anal canal that contain blood vessels, muscle, and elastic fibers. External hemorrhoids are enlarged blood vessels surrounding the anus.
  • Most cases of hemorrhoids are self-treated by the patient, using topical OTC medication. The condition can resolve spontaneously, especially if the patient takes dietary steps against constipation. Hemorrhoids are far and away the leading cause of rectal bleeding and anal discomfort. They affect about half of us at some point, and frequency increases with age. Most cases are never reported.
  • Internal hemorrhoids cause problems when they enlarge. The cause of the enlargement is not known.
  • Complications of internal hemorrhoids include bleeding, anal itchiness, prolapse, incarceration, and gangrene. Pain is not common.
  • The primary complication of external hemorrhoids is pain due to blood clotting in the hemorrhoidal blood vessels.
  • When dealing with hemorrhoids, it is important to exclude other diseases of the anus and rectum that may cause similar symptoms such as polyps, cancer, and diseases of the skin.
  • Treatment of hemorrhoids includes over-the-counter topical medications, sclerotherapy, rubber band ligation, heat coagulation, cryotherapy, anal dilation, Doppler ligation, sphincterotomy, and surgical hemorrhoidectomy.
